How To Pick the Healthiest Juice

Juice can be deceiving — sure, it’s made from nature’s sweet stuff, but it can also be loaded with all sorts of decidedly unnatural ingredients. So, save from juicing your own fruits and veggies, how do you figure out which ones are healthy and which ones are, well, not so healthy? Read on to find out some tips for decoding juice labels!
The Cloudier the Better Can you see through the juice? That likely means it mostly contains water, and packs less of the nutritional punch that cloudier juices do. The cloudier the juice, the more real juice it usually has.
What’s it Called? Steer clear of any bottle labelled, “cocktail,” “beverage,” or “drink.” These types of “juices” usually only contain 10% or less of the actual fruit. Stick with juices labeled, “100% juice.”
Does it Have Added Sugars? Any juices that have added sugars, like high-fructose corn syrup, are not a safe bet.

Is is Blended? Many juices, particularly orange juice, are blended with other fruits like apples or grapes. While this may sound like a perfectly healthy option, you won’t receive all of the nutritional benefits of 100% of one particular fruit juice.
Is it Pasteurized? The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires all juice manufacturers to label whether their product is pasteurized. Unpasteurized juice can potentially be harmful for people with weakened immune systems. Because it doesn’t affect taste or nutritional value, pasteurized juice is the safest bet!
Does it Interact with My Medications? Many ‘superfood’ juices contain a whole slew of ingredients that may not interact well with  medications you are taking. Check with your doctor before trying these out.
Is it Too Much of a Good Thing? ‘Superfood’ juices can also contain huge quantities of vitamins that, when consumed too frequently or in too high of amounts, can have harmful affects. Though getting your vitamins is important, it’s also important not to overdo it.
BOTTOM LINE: Stick with 100% fruit juice!
