Goodness of Belly Fat

Researchers have found that the omentum, which is a fatty membrane in the belly, earlier thought to be of no use to the body, much like the appendix, could have a key role to play in regulating the immune system.

This discovery may be good for victims of auto-immune disease such as lupus.

The omentum cells can help modulate the immune system as they secrete a substance which can help suppress the immune system.

This research could also pave the way for newer drugs that can suppress the immune system with lesser side effects than those caused by immune suppressing drugs.
