Father takes pic of 11-year-old son with gun, social services shows up at his door demanding entry into his home and access to guns or else they will "take his kids"

The father of an 11-year-old took a picture of him holding a .22 rifle and posted it on Facebook. Shortly after, an anonymous call was made to New Jersey’s Department of Youth and Family Services, and they showed up at the father’s door demanding to see his firearms or else they would take the child.

Shawn Moore posted on a pro-Second Amendment forum detailing the experience. Moore said two representatives from the state’s social services came to his house on the night of March 15 with four police officers.

They said they were responding to a call about a young boy holding a firearm, and without a search warrant, demanded to see his firearms. Though Moore was not initially there, his wife called him and talked to him throughout until he was able to arrive at the home.

They also called their lawyer, who listened to the exchange between the DYFS, police and Moore’s family. His lawyer told Moore to deny entry to the DYFS.

After he told them they could not enter, a DYFS representative threatened to take his children. When Moore asked for her name, she refused to give it to him and soon left “empty handed and seeing nothing.”

Nappen, Moore’s attorney, told The Blaze more details about the ordeal.

Apparently, the DYFS representative wanted access to the house and gun safe so that she could make sure they were catalogued and “properly registered,” though New Jersey does not require registration.

Nappen said he believes they are still wanting to inspect the house, but assures Moore that it will not happen.

He also said Moore is more than qualified to carry the firearms, as he holds three significant firearms designations, including an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor, NRA Certified Range Safety Instructor, and NJ State Certified Firearms Hunting Instructor.

On top of that, his son is also certified by the state of New Jersey. Anyone under the age of 18 must pass a state firearms hunter safety test in order to go hunting, and Moore’s son did so.

The community of Second Amendment supporters is angered by the incident and has reposted the story on Facebook pages and numerous pro-gun sites.

Moore said on Monday night that the DYFS is still insisting on seeing his safe.

He ended his post by saying, “People it can happen that fast. Most people wouldn’t have stood up to them like I did.”

  1. Anyone with kids and firearms in NJ, I can envision a perfectly legal "civil disobedience" which would teach these over-reachers a valuable lesson. Not one, but one million pictures of kids with guns. Let them try to take a million children away from parents.

  2. Their correct response was NO! You do not have the right to enter MY home and I refuse you the right to enter.

  3. America, imagine if you will this happening here in Britain, where a parent and a neighbour say had a falling out over a cat in the garden and the neighbour makes an anonymous phone call to social services of malicious allegation. Imagine the scenario when they turn up at 4am kicking the door in with armoured police in tow and take the parents child.

Now imagine too a secret court system that the press are not allowed to report from, that 200 people every year are imprisoned for critcising this secret court system or divulging their injustice to the media, reporting as being one of many thousands of families victimised by social services who are stealing children to profit their elite masters.

Forced adoption, a form of child exploitation is big, big business over here, this coming financial year will see it cross the 15 billion pound threshold. it is as big over in the US where CPS departments steal children either to sell off to adopters or to use as a cash cow and make enormous profits from by milking the government in claimed back expenses.

And they use Orwellian means of doing so, to object makes you a sympathiser of child abusers, an enabler of such, a supporter of paedophiles and THIS is how they silence your representatives as what elected representative is going to risk their career by being seen as supporting "abusive" parents.

They, the "elite" have decided on a massive programme as did Hitler in his day of moving children from working class to middle and upper class families and making a huge fortune out of it whilst doing it, it may be your child next and unless you act they will come through YOUR door at 4 am and steal your child, it can be proven that here in the UK a prime blonde blue eyed baby or toddler is worth 50,000 in a pot granted by the government that is divided between adoption agency, social services and lawyers, now add on fostering expenses of 500 pounds a week, yes it costs a thousand dollars to house one child and again another thousand dollars is given tax free to adopters PER child at the discretion of the social services departments, many adopters are taking on two or three children and if they "kickback" to the social worker, that worker will ensure they get that 500 pounds per child ad infinitum.

  6. CPS is a criminal gang specializing in kidnapping. If CPS gets your children then you kids may be harmed or murdered. Look it up and defend yourself appropriately when CPS arrives.

  7. Since WHEN does children services. have the right to demand entrance to ANYBODYS home. You got to love it when these fly by night clown wannabes think they are above the law. The father did the right thing by denying them entrance to his home. These idiots need to go crawl back under the rock they came from. Stand up for your rights America and these idiots will eventually rot away like they should.

  9. My folks had an encounter with CPS when I was a kid. Some "educator" didn't like the fact that I showed up to school carrying my coat instead of wearing it. Granted, it was only about 65* F that day, but I was a little porker and I lived close enough to school at the time to walk there. Hence, when I got hot I took the buggered coat OFF.

So, when CPS showed up my dad promptly told them to "bugger" off(I'm American, pardon my use of British slang but I assume there are censors in place here to automatically remove profanity.). This began a cycle of abuse by the system that didn't end until I was nineteen. By then a person who was a family friend, or so we thought, had managed to help CPS accomplish their witch hunt. It was undone on appeal, but that was an epic fight that essentially destroyed my parents' finances and nearly destroyed our family.
