When an assisted living home in California shut down last fall, many of its residents were left behind, with nowhere to go.
The staff at the Valley Springs Manor left when they stopped getting paid — except for cook Maurice Rowland and Miguel Alvarez, the janitor.
"There was about 16 residents left behind, and we had a conversation in the kitchen, 'What are we going to do?' " Rowland says.
"If we left, they wouldn't have nobody," the 34-year-old Alvarez says.
Their roles quickly transformed for the elderly residents, who needed round-the-clock care.
"I would only go home for one hour, take a shower, get dressed, then be there for 24-hour days," says Alvarez.
Rowland, 35, remembers passing out medications during those long days. He says he didn't want to leave the residents — some coping with dementia — to fend for themselves.
"I just couldn't see myself going home — next thing you know, they're in the kitchen trying to cook their own food and burn the place down," Rowland says. "Even though they wasn't our family, they were kind of like our family for this short period of time."
For Alvarez, the situation brought back memories from his childhood.
"My parents, when they were younger, they left me abandoned," he says. "Knowing how they are going to feel, I didn't want them to go through that."
Alvarez and Rowland spent several days caring for the elderly residents of Valley Springs Manor until the fire department and sheriff took over.

Yes, that really is refreshing news! I hope somebody hires them - with pay!
ReplyDeleteNice gesture, but dispensing meds without being licensed could get him into big trouble! Those two broke a lot of laws, but they cared enough to stay until others stepped in - noble!!
ReplyDeleteThere is an award in this country called "the "Presidential Citizen's Medal". It is awarded yearly to individuals for "exemplary deeds or services [performed] for his or her country or fellow citizens". Too often, I believe, it is awarded in a quid-pro-quo manner to individuals who are high profile with big wallets and/or good public relations staffs.
ReplyDeleteThese two would be excellent examples of individuals who should receive this award. Wouldn't they make great examples of what citizenship and service means for our young people to emulate?
Laws are just words on a piece of paper. At the end of the day they are just suggestions. You do what you have to do. If you can comply with a law then fine, but don't let it ever get in the way.
ReplyDeleteThey were issued for the patients and went to the patients and an orderly or even a cook can dispense a pill, or maybe they should have given those people with dementia their pills and care for themselves?
ReplyDeleteThose words as you call them have consequences if not obeyed!
ReplyDeleteA cook and janitor can dispense meds? Don't think so, if that's the case, nursing residents have much to worry about!
ReplyDeleteCalifornia has to keep paying the medical costs of millions of illegals, and there is only so much cash to go around.
ReplyDeleteHuge respect for men who demonstrate what America is all about. God Bless you both. You help to restore my faith in mankind. We used to produce far more people with values like this. It's good to see some are still around.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the fire department and sheriff did to secure the elderly residents.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is tough to get old when you got no family to look out for you. Except for the cook Maurice Rowland and Miguel Alvarez, the janitor, who were so kind and showed devotion and responsibility for these elderly folks they indeed would have been abandoned. I wish those boys every lucky break in their lives.
true heroes but fire dept will take all the credit
ReplyDeleteProbably the two lowest paid people on the staff <3
ReplyDeleteOnly if the masses are in the same mind-set and defy government. But that's not the case here, the masses are too scared not to comply, and the few that don't get made an example of!!
ReplyDeleteDon't bet on it. Everybody I know has come to the conclusion
ReplyDeletethat government no longer represents the people and is no longer legitimate. Therefore we no longer have any obligation to cooperate. My friends and colleagues aren't scared, they are mad as hell. Everybody I know thinks the government is an
occupying army with no consent of the people. Nobody waves
a red flag in front of the bull but nobody fully cooperates either.
A thousand people in Nevada a few months ago held hundreds of federal agents at gun point and drove them off the Bundy.
They had a federal court order but nobody has any respect for the federal courts or federal agents anymore. The agents wisely withdrew because they knew they would be wiped out if they didn't. Nobody trusts the government and nobody respects the government, we see them as a bunch of criminals.
The bundy thing was a big show, fact is there is a huge land grab in that area, and that includes bundy's ranch, that's why they didn't do anything at the time. You really think a few idiots on horses were going to intimidate the feds? LOL! At this point we not only have DC to contend with, but now millions of illegals and their agendas. They don't need our respect at this point, or really our money, because we are out numbered!
ReplyDeleteThats where you are dead wrong. Why do you think the government puts so much effort into distracting us with
ReplyDeletenonsense issues like gay marriage or legal hooch. We
outnumber them thousands to one and they are terrified that we will all realize who the real threat to America is, them.
Check this article out. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/06/the-pitchforks-are-coming-for-us-plutocrats-108014.html#.VHYmQWeqM3k
Negative, it's Agenda 21, which will force many into cities and off their lands. There were 50+ ranchers they drove out before Bundy!!
ReplyDeleteYes and the light is finally popping on in peoples heads. 30
ReplyDeleteyears ago when land dispossession started with all the so called environmental laws nobody knew what Agenda 21 was. now everybody does.
Doesn't matter what they know now, the mega rich own millions of acres, and those previous owners will never be able to go back!
ReplyDeleteYou don't understand something. When the French people, the
ReplyDeleteRussian people, the Cuban people and so many others finally
realized that they had all the power not the rulers, the mega
rich were found hanging from lampposts along with their
"police" and the land was simply taken back. Laws only have
authority if people think they do. The second the light bulb
goes on in the collective peoples heads it's over.
Your basing that on the elites not knowing the (awakening), they do. Brezinski already spoke on this very thing. They know the masses are growing pissy and tired of the constant control, that's why they have instituted a control grid in place, with plenty of tracking devices and drones! You really think all these electronic toys were for the masses? Nope, they are to track our every move on the ground and in the air. These are different times friend - high tech times - no escape!!
ReplyDeleteThese "toys" are only useful if you don't know how they work.
ReplyDeleteWe do.. I worked as an Engineer designing the very same equipment the NSA uses that Snowden exposed. I installed
some of it in telephone exchanges 15 years ago. I know how
the telemetry systems that control drones work. I know exactly how Iran took control of those US drones and flew them back to Iran for a safe landing and then reverse engineered them. All this technology they use is 20+ years old and well understood by millions of engineers around the world. When push comes to shove it will all be useless. 10 years ago I worked for a military contractor who sold communications equipment designed in the 70's , stuff they used in Iraq, are you kidding me??? When you look at the crap they use and the quality of the people using it??? Remember, people in the military can't do anything else, thats why they join the military! Oh they have facial recognition systems!! Really, they are the easiest
biometrics systems to defeat. How do I know this? Because I've written code for bio-metrics systems, I've developed algorithms and I know how the facial systems work. Oh they
have have weapons like the microwave system that heat the skin of crowds to disperse, Really, you can buy fabric off the shelf that is designed to absorb mm waves rending theses things useless. Just make a shawls and walk right through it.
Oh they can track my credit card, really ever heard of cash? Oh they can track my cell phone, really so use ham radios, the meta data will be useless because they can only map
the source of the transmission not who's radio is being used or who receives the message. Oh they'll confiscate my guns because they'll check the registration records, really, ever
heard of ghost guns, the 80% receivers that are bought for cash without serial numbers or any purchase records and finished with a drill press? Here is the big picture. The government is populated by losers who can't cut it in the private sector, that's why they work for the government. And the crap the private sector sells to the idiots in government is stuff that is either over priced and defective or obsolete since no one in the private sector will but it they sell it to government. And finally it's guys like me from the private sector who design and build this stuff, do you really thinks
we don't know how to deal with it should government try
and use it against use???
You may know, that doesn't mean millions of people know, or how to fight against it! BTW a lot of scientists, etc. have so-called suicides happening, why it that? Like I said the elites have all angles covered!
ReplyDeleteThere are millions of engineers and technicians who are today law abiding citizens like me who don't educate or design to defeat these systems. That doesn't mean we can't. The day we
ReplyDeleteall decide it's time for a real "change we can believe in" they won't know what hit them and won't be able to stop us.
Better get busy - hour is late bro! The elites just about have this thing wrapped up!! Trouble is you guys have known this stuff for years, and said nothing! Now we all will suffer because of it! And the ones that so-called whistle-blow, many times wind up dead!! Between vaccines, GMO's, tv, etc. much of the masses are brain-washed, and that's how they will stay. As long as they have their (stuff), that's good enough for them! Face it, the masses are enslaved, and don't care!
ReplyDeleteThats true but when the masses loose their "stuff" they will
ReplyDeletecare and fast. They will be looking for leaders. Revolutions always start that way. When the dollar collapses as it must
and soon they will loose their stuff right quick. We don't "say" we do. Whistle blowers are targets. The smart one don't eat GMO's or take vaccines. The smart ones don't watch TV or engage in mindless consumerism. When the drones start falling out of the sky, the police and DHS discover that their comms systems don't work and the banks discover that a barter
system has replaced their paper money. When the government
discovers that after gun confiscation everyone is still armed
it will be the smart ones behind it, and they will be the leaders..
What they want is for us to fight amongst ourselves. A race war is black against white. The whites because of feat and the Blacks because of the anger of disenfranchisement. Divide and rule is the game. What the elites fear most is a unified 99% understanding who the real enemy is, the 1%. Actions speak louder than words. In Ferguson the media has been race baiting and police have been setting most of the fires while the do nothing to protect property from looting. Why is that??? The city is on fire and the police do nothing but start more fires. Now think back to 2011 when the occupy movement sprang up and was comprised of a bunch of folks camping in public parks sign songs, giving speeches and holding up sign. No crime, no rioting no property damage. And what happened?? The DHS coordinated nationwide with police forces from a command center in the Goldman Sachs building to gas, shoot, beat and arrest folks for the vicious crime of camping in a public park. The reason the elites did this is because the occupy movement was created across
ReplyDeletecolor lines, economic lines and religious lines. It was everybody. The occupy movement demand the reenactment
of the Glass Stegal act, and and prosecution of the MERs
bank fraud along with legislation that would prevent members of Congress from insider-trading and other things that went straight to the heart of exposing and curtailing
the massive levels of corruption within the US government.
The occupy movement was started by middle class educated people who could not be corrupted which is why the elites
were so terrified of them. That is the revolution we need to
support.
Orders are coming from Valerie Jarrett herself for the likes of Oath Keepers to stand down, and (not) prevent any destruction - imagine that! This thing is from DC and their handlers to inflict as much damage and procure as much hatred from it as possible! You see there is no cohesion for the collective good, it's only destruction, just what the elites want!
ReplyDeleteOccupy was a leaderless resistance driven by a convergence of conclusion. Thats why the elites were so terrified by it. The problem was that it wasn't quite time yet. It was a bit too soon. When everyone comes to the same conclusion that this government must go, nothing will stop it because you can't infiltrate an individual. With occupy the educated middle-class
ReplyDeletemostly where driving it. Those people haven't gone away and haven't changed their thinking. They have just gone quiet to
develop alternative monetary systems like barter and digital currency so then can avoid paying taxes and control the value of the currency. They are developing peer to peer encryption systems and RF communication networks. All revolutions
are crafted and guided by the middle class. The masses are the foot soldiers. The masses aren't quite ready yet so Occupy was a couple of years early. We all know the elites game to cause chaos and we aren't buying it. That has got them in a panic.
No one but the ALL MIGHTY HIMSELF
