When a 5-Year-Old Saw a Homeless Man Outside Waffle House, He Did More Than Give Him a Hot Meal…

A very special, 5-year-old Alabama boy just going out to dinner saw past the things that would cause most people to walk on by.
When Josiah Duncan and his mom saw a homeless man outside a local Waffle House, the youngster saw more than just his filthy clothing and a bag with his belongings. Josiah saw a human being in need. Then, with mom Ava Faulk’s help, he took action, reports WSFA 12.
He insisted that the man head inside the restaurant, and order some food. But Josiah’s actions didn’t stop with providing a hot meal. His simple act of kindness was followed up by an extraordinary act of faith that touched all who witnessed it.

“I wanted to say the blessing with him,” Duncan said.
And Josiah did, publicly, with 11 other customers watching. Josiah sang the blessing as loud as his little voice could muster.
“God our Father, God our Father, we thank you, we thank you, for our many blessings, for our many blessings, Amen, Amen.”
“The man cried. I cried. Everybody cried,” Faulk admitted.
WSFA 12’s post to Facebook about the incident drew more than 3,600 likes and over 1,400 shares.
Josiah’s grandmother, Kathy Ramsey Duke, noted the innocence behind his action:
Perhaps the thing to see here is a child, who doesn’t see wealth or poverty, but sees someone who is hungry and alone. When his mother explained this to him, his heart said, ‘ help him’…..he’s knows nothing of any circumstances surrounding this man’s life….just that he was hungry and he needed to see him fed….. Josiah is my grandson. I’ve never been any prouder of him than I am today. His youthful innocent faith could teach us all quite a bit.
People from across the country have been truly moved by the story:

And what did Josiah’s mom have to say about the incident? KSFA 12 reported:
“Watching my son touch the 11 people in that Waffle House tonight will be forever one of the greatest accomplishments as a parent I’ll ever get to witness.”
As noted by TIME, kids are often noted for saying “the darnedest things” – but they also can act in a fashion that is amazingly compassionate.
