Ways To Prevent Yellowing of Teeth

Nothing says gross like faded yellow teeth. The color of your teeth and your smile for that matter, have a real and lasting impact on your interactions.
A confidant smile is a sign of a confidant person, or not so much. But whitening treatments are pricey and often times, a pain. Why not take care of your teeth and your smile by avoiding foods and behaviors that contribute to teeth yellowing?
Here’s how to maintain a white teeth diet:

1. Limit Berries
The chemicals that give berries their deep rich color can also stain your teeth. While berries are amazing for your health, they can permanently stain your teeth.

2. Avoid Coffee and Tea
Coffee is known for staining the enamel of the tooth and the same is true of tea. The darker the tea, the more it stains. The staining is permanent and can be especially apparent with age.

3. Limit Soy Sauce
Just like soy sauce will stain your favorite shirt, it will sink into the crevices and cracks of your teeth and stain them as well.

4. Quit Smoking
The tobacco from cigarettes causes that dull yellowish stain on your teeth. The more cigarettes you smoke, the more your teeth will yellow.

5. Skip the Curry
If you love curry (and it’s hard not to) you may be plagued with yellow teeth. Over time curry can leave a permanent stain on your teeth.

6. Avoid Excessive Fluoride Intake
Fluoride can be found in high amounts in your water, toothpaste, and in mouthwash. High amounts of it in your daily life can stain your teeth.

7. Practice Good Dental Hygiene
Poor dental hygiene causes tartar and plaque, making it easier for stains to accumulate. Brush your teeth after meals to help remove the buildup of staining foods and drinks.

8. Avoid Balsamic Vinegar
Like soy sauce, balsamic vinegar can seep into the crevices and cracks of your teeth and cause discoloration. Over time, this can turn your teeth yellow.

9. Switch to White Wine
Dark drinks discolor your teeth. That red wine tooth stain that you get after one too many glasses of wine may overtime discolor your teeth.  You may want to consider switching to white wine instead of red.

10. Switch to Light Soda
As you can see from the above list, dark colored beverages including coffee, tea, wine, and soda have a huge impact on tooth staining. But it only matters if your soda is dark, so just like with red wine, consider switching to a light colored soda if you can’t give it up entirely.
