One Classic American Slogan Is All Over Virginia License Plates—And It’s Only Growing in Popularity

If you’ve been to Virginia recently, you may have noticed one particularly popular custom license plate.

The simple, and truly American, statement “Don’t tread on me” was originally found on our first flag.
Now, the plate’s skyrocketing in popularity in Virginia, quickly outpacing other options.
First introduced in 2012, by 2014 it had already become the sixth most popular license plate design, out of more than 200 choices.
One of those purchasers, retired CIA agent Warner Workman, spoke to Leesburg Today about his adoption of the plate:
“I consider myself an American who believes in the original Founding Fathers’ concepts of freedom and limited government, constitutional government, minimal intrusion of the government in people’s daily lives.”
The “Don’t Tread On Me” license plate sold more than 11,000 units in just the first four months of 2015, and will most likely move to 4th or 5th place by year’s end.
If the messages people choose to display on their cars is any indication of priorities, it looks like at least one segment of the country is really feeling the American spirit.

  1. I prefer the motto of the state of Virginia: "Sic Semper Tyrannis"

Google THAT if you want to know a cool slogan. (actually, boycott Google and use a different search engine)

  2. According to the F.B.I. that symbol is a known terrorist insignia.

  3. As with many slogans, this is little more than Jingoism. I have lived here in Roanoke, Virginia for 6 years, and this find this town to be full of arrogant, ignorant, backstabbing rednecks that believe freedom and inalienable rights are to be reserved for *only* those with a pickup truck and a Harley. Anyone else gets garbage thrown on their lawn, their cars sabotaged or vandalized, obnoxious punks roaring by their house all hours of the night, on and on. Absolutely no sense of community here, and the douchebags with the Gadsden tags tend to be the biggest assholes of them all.

  4. All the more reason for rats and snitched to pick up a set of these tags. I have noted that a good percentage of the local police informants have Gadsden tags. Go figure.

  5. Defense companies are paying people to turn other people in for crimes now. The war in Iraq simply cam home to America and became a supplement to the drug war which is really a war against the poor.

Drug dealers victimize the poor and the state victimizes the poor on all fronts. You see S.W.A.T. team raids in Manhattan where the majority of cocaine is consumed. We have a two-tiered justice system designed to punish people for being born disadvantaged.
